Federal War Crimes – 1864 Burning of the Shenandoah Valley
The United States military is unsurpassed in making war on the defenseless and its leaders are no-exception. General Philip Sheridan is another celebrated Federal “war hero ” who followed in Sherman’s footsteps in attacking defenseless civilians. After the Confederate army had finally evacuated the Shenandoah Valley in the autumn of 1864 Sheridan’s 35,000 infantry troops essentially burned the entire valley to the ground.
As Sheridan described it in letters to both General Grant and Emperor Lincoln, in the first few days he ” destroyed over 2200 barns…over 70 mills… have driven in front of the army over 4000 head of stock, and have killed … not less then 3000 sheep…. Tomorrow I will continue the destruction.” In letters home Sheridan’s troops described themselves as ” barn burners ” and ” destroyers of homes. ” One soldier wrote home that he had personally set 60 private homes on fire and opined that…
” it was a hard looking sight to see the women and children turned out of doors at this season of the year.” A Sergeant William T. Patterson wrote that ” the whole country around is wrapped in flames, the heavens are aglow with the light thereof … such mourning, such lamentations, such crying and pleading for mercy [by defenseless women]… I never saw or want to see again.” ~Robert~
While no official records exist many Southern Historians estimate that as many as 12,000 women, children, and elderly men and women froze to death in the subsequent brutal Virginia winter. Estimates can be formulated on the fact that many of the valleys 12,000 women, children, and elderly occupants simply went missing after the valley was burned. We know that about 12,000 women, children, and elderly people were present in this location per the 1860 Federal census. Now its only an estimate because between 1860 and 1864 some of those people could have moved, or could have died of natural causes. But one thing is for sure that the population of the valley before and after Sheridan’s campaign just vanished.
Furthermore there were numerous Federal accounts of Confederate women, and even children, being brutally raped and tortured by Federal soldiers during this criminal act. Some soldiers were disciplined by commissioned officers which is why we have some limited reports of these actions. Given the freedom that non-commissioned Federal soldiers were given in their campaign of destruction the true tally of crimes committed are most likely double if not triple what was actually reported if you apply simple common sense.
Given all of this its funny that Yankees have the nerve to ask us why we hate “America”. Well we don’t hate America because America doesn’t exist. America is a figment of the collective imagination of people who live in the Federal Empire. Show me on a map where the nation of America or the State of America is? If you look at a map you will only see the former United States, which is the current Federal Empire. Since America doesn’t exist, we do however hate the Federal Empire (i.e. the former United States), its stripped flag, and everything about it. We hate it because of the countless war crimes levied upon our people by your people… and yes we are two separate groups of people. I’m a Floridian, Florida Cracker, Southerner, loyal to the founders, Christians, and when you get right down to the root of it a Confederate. Y’all on the other hand are Uh-Mericans, loyalists to the Empire, Imperials, traitors to the Constitution/founding fathers, secularists, and butchers. Nothing but a bunch of red-white & blue Nazi’s who murder and burn any other group that gets in the way of the might of the Uh-Merican Empire.
Uh-Merican history is littered with the blood of innocent and peaceful groups who got in the way… Native Americans, Hawaiians, Confederates, Texans, Filipinos, Cubans, Spaniards, etc.
Again some people will never learn, but again its hard to learn anything with your head stuck up your red-white and blue ass.
